First visit guide

What to expect on your first appointment.

No mystery. No "let's see how it goes." Here is exactly what happens on day one, in order, with rough timing for each step. Most initial evaluations run about 45 to 60 minutes start to finish.

  1. 1

    Paperwork & benefits (15 minutes)

Complete the new-patient intake ahead of time or on arrival. Bring your insurance card and a photo ID. If you have recent imaging (X-ray, MRI) or a surgeon's protocol, bring it — it saves a step and sharpens your plan.

  2. 2

    Conversation (20 minutes)

Your physical therapist sits down with you — unhurried. We listen first. What hurts, when it started, what you have already tried, and what you actually need to get back to: lifting your kid, finishing a trail run, sitting through your workday.

  3. 3

    Functional evaluation

Range-of-motion, strength, balance, and special orthopedic tests relevant to your complaint. We assess how you actually move — not just where it hurts — to find the root, not only the symptom.

  4. 4

    Clear plan, clear timeline

You will leave knowing what is wrong (in plain language), how we will treat it, roughly how many visits to expect, and what success looks like. No vague "come three times a week indefinitely," no prepaid packages.

  5. 5

First treatment, if you are ready

Most new patients begin hands-on treatment and leave with a starter home program on day one. If more information is needed first, we will tell you — and schedule accordingly.

Direct access — no referral required

Oregon allows patients to see a physical therapist directly for most insurances without a physician referral. A few plans require authorization — we check yours before your first visit and tell you in advance.

Flat visit fees, no bundled packages, no prepay requirements. We provide an honest estimate after your initial evaluation, and payment arrangements are available for established patients.

Common questions

What new patients usually ask first.

If the question on your mind is not here, just call us — we would rather answer it now than have you guess.

Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist?

No. Oregon is a direct-access state. You can call us directly and we can evaluate and begin treatment without a physician referral for most insurances. A few plans require authorization — we will check yours before your first visit.

How long until I feel better?

Most patients notice meaningful improvement within three to five visits. Chronic or post-surgical cases take longer — we will give you an honest, individualized timeline after your first evaluation, not a generic twelve-week package.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in. If we are treating a knee or hip, shorts are helpful; for a shoulder, a tank top or loose tee. We have gowns and shorts available if you forget.

Will my insurance cover physical therapy?

Most plans cover PT, though coverage details (visit limits, copays, deductibles) vary. We verify your specific benefits before your first appointment so you know what to expect.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on what is wrong and how long it has been wrong. We do not sell prepaid packages. After your evaluation we recommend a realistic plan with a clear endpoint — and revisit it together as you progress.

Can I do massage or Pilates without being a PT patient?

Yes. Our massage therapy and wellness Pilates are available to the community, not only active PT patients. Ask about availability and pricing when you call.

Which location should I go to?

Our main clinic is at 488 E 11th Ave, Suite 150A; our second location is at 1835 Pearl St. Both are in Eugene with the same team standards — choose whichever is more convenient for you.

Ready when you are.
